Need some advice on SP1

Tomorrow im getting all the stuff for building my new PC, i have some questions that hopefully you can help me with :)

I read the tutorial on installing vista (been looking for that for ages btw!:D)

Right anyway, im getting sp1 on a seperate disc with my new stuff. Should i install Vista, then drivers (can anyone help me with this too), and then insert the SP1 disc?

Or is there a better way to do it, as this will be from a completly clean HDD, unformatted etc..

Cheers in advance, your help will be greatly recieved.

Hi RetroDude, and welcome to Vista Forums.

I have always found it best to install Vista first, drivers, SP1, then the rest of Windows Updates.

For the drivers, I have always installed the latest ones available from the device manufacturer's website. Be sure to include installing the latest BIOS and chipset driver versions from your motherboard's website to. I made it easy and had the driver installation files on DVD or another partition. This way it was faster and handy if I had no network connection for whatever reason.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Yep, it's that simple. The hardest part is just locating and downloading all of the drivers at the manufacturer websites. ;)

Since you have this computer to work with for now, I would go ahead and download all of the 64 bit Vista driver installation files for your devices and copy them to DVD. This way you will have them ready to use if for some reason you do not have a network connection after installing Vista. When done installing Vista, you can install the drivers from the DVD or copy them to the desktop and install them from there instead. Either way will work fine.

If you have Dell they have a service on their site that finds some of the important driver updates. I use this when I can't find a driver or it's a minor company.
