Hi, I am posting here in hopes that I will recieve a sound answer. I have been reading and reading the pro's and cons regarding downloading IE8. I still have it up on my Windows update and can't come to the decision whether to download it on to my Vista Home Edition 64 bit and I am hoping someone here can give me solid advise on what to do. The last thing I want is problems as my computer runs perfectly so any advise would be well appreciated. I am aware that Adobe Flash Player does not have software that is compatibly with 64 bit and that is a worry in itself. Thank you.

Perform a system backup then try IE8.
Different people have had different experiances with it.
I have had no problems so I can not tell you of any that you may experiance.

When I received IE 8 as an update, I made a restore point and then downloaded it, worked perfectly, no problems. I personally like it more than IE7.

If you make a restore point, before downloading and do not like it you can restore your computer to the point prior to the installation. I personally, like to make a manual restore point before making changes, just in case, restore does not do it automatically.

Give it a try

Thank you all for your opinions and I will probably download it and see what happens. Did any of you have a problem with Flash player or Java? I am now just running flash player and java for a 32 bit. Does IE8 instruct you to download java for 64 bit or is it part of the package. I wish there was instructions on what to do after you download IE8. Thanks again

I have IE8 on my Windows 7 OS and, Frankly, I don't see what the big deal is, I have not noticed any difference from IE7, then again, I only use it to browse a few sites so I may not be the one to give a formed opinion here.

Now, with that said, whatever Java or Adobe needs or doesn't need to work with IE8, I can only say that, so far, the browser works and it takes me where I want to go. I even think that I have been on Youtube once or twice w/o a hitch.

Personally, I like Firefox more than IE now, I can have more user friendly security than with IE and I had been using IE since its inception up to about 6 months ago.

You might want to disable virus protection for the download and installation and subsequent reboot, but apart from that everything was normal/is normal. Same old Flash, Shockwave, Java, etc, etc.

I like it and feel that it's a tad faster than IE7.

you wont have any problems with flash or java , flash doesnt work with 64 bit yet but your default browser (the one thats linked to the shortcut set by the ie8 installation) will be the 32 bit version anyway , you get both
you will have to goto your programs list to select and run the 64 bit version , i would advise using that for internet banking if ou do anything like that , its a bit more secure

I downloaded IE8 two nights ago. No issue with exception that my HP printer needed some new update which MS directed me too upon the first fire up of IE8. Once installed all was great. IE8 is much like 7. You should have no problems.

Hi all, just wanted to let you all know that I downloaded IE8 and everything went perfect. It's working well without any problems.
I did have to disable HP Smart Web Printing add-ons because they are not supported by IE8. All your comments gave me the assurance I needed so thank you very much.
