Need help with system restore please

My laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium) has started to take ages to shut down so I thought about restoring it to a point when it shut down quicker, when I go to start and click on system restore all I get is the spinning curser and if I click on help and support it just makes a ping sound. the same thing happens when I try to uninstall a program, any advice on how to solve this problem would be much appreciated

Try system restore in safe mode

Personally, I would not use SR at this point. I would follow the instructions in the above tutorial and if
that did not work, try the clean boot procedure, to see the cause of the slow down.

If all else fails then go with Restore
