Need help with my PC

I would like to introduce myself first, I'm Soboredlesso. New to Vistax64, experienced computer user. I thought Vistax64 was a good place to share my experiences and thoughts.

The problem is from my laptop, not my desktop PC.
Here are the specs:

Sony VAIO VGN-NS25G Laptop
Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 (2GHz)
2GB RAM DDR2
250GB HDD (SATA)
Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD

It started on Monday, booted up my PC, typed in user name and password. Went on to Mozilla Firefox, about 10 or 15 minutes.... my laptop freezes. My mouse pointer cannot move, neither the programs. The only thing I could do, was the Windows Flip 3D (Win+Tab). My indicators (Power, Battery and Hard Drive) looked fine. So I shut down my PC.

I booted the PC, somehow... it failed. It had "Microsoft Corporation" and the loading bar, it was like that forever. I shut down my PC again and decided to go to Startup Repair and System Restore. It fixed the booting error, but my computer still freezes.

This problem always goes on forever and ever. The worse place is to go is logging in as Administrator. But it does the same thing, except it also had blue screen of death. (KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR). I booted in Safe Mode, and it does the same thing. I did chkdsk /f , startup repair and system restore. I haven't thought about restoring my PC to factory settings.

EDIT: I currently have Norton Internet Security 2010 (paid version) on my system. I haven't recently installed programs, drivers or hardware lately....

I reckon my Sony VAIO sucks like hell.
Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Soboredlesso

Try booting in safe mode, then do system restore to before Monday when your problem started. That's a simple first step to see if you can fix the problem without going back to factory settings.

Hello Soboredlesso,
If the system restore does not fix it, (hopefully it will), go to C > Windows > Minidump, zip up the files and we will take a look and see if we can see what caused the BSOD.
You may need to save the dump files to your desktop first.

It sounds like it could be a memory problem.
Does it lock up all the time or only when you are web browsing ?.

As rhlhamlet said, there are a few things to try before a re-install.
Upload the dump files with your next post and we will take a look.

I'm not sure if it is a memory, but... a couple of months ago... I had MEMORY_MANAGEMENT on it.

It locks up the PC when I'm on the web. I tried IE8, Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome, all of them locked up my PC.

Try booting in safe mode, then do system restore to before Monday when your problem started.

Tried that, still locks up my PC in Safe Mode.

I open the Minidump files, apparently... there were heaps of mini-dump files since April 2009, there are 12 mini-dump files. But the next time I see KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR, I'll post it on the forums for you.

Nvm about this problem, I got this problem fixed.

The worse place is to go is logging in as Administrator. But it does the same thing, except it also had blue screen of death. (KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR).
Upgraded 2GB to 4GB memory.
There was a virus on my PC, I got my laptop checked for free by an IT technician. NIS 2010 didn't detect it, I decided to move to McAfee.

As rhlhamlet said, there are a few things to try before a re-install.
Upload the dump files with your next post and we will take a look.
Got it checked as well by an IT technician, memory problem.

Thanks for the help. Really appreciated. :D
