Need HELP PLEASE!!

hi guys... i just joined this forum, coz i think you might be able to help me...
im running vista home premium 32bit.

just last night i downloaded some updates...
im not sure if its this that did it because it was only a driver update for my graphics card... geforce 9800gtx+ if that matters.

when it asked for a restart i did it. and when it rebooted it loaded up fine, but then as soon as i tried to open anything... both on my desktop or the in the start menu. it doesnt do anything, it just shows the loading cursor and explorer.exe freezes
ive tried doing it in safe mode, but safe mode doesnt work, it freezes when it tries to load one of the .sys files

i cant shut down my comp normally, i have to manually hold down the button on my case.

then i tried putting my vista installation disk in: vista home premium 23bit OEM because i was going to try to repair it. but it just doesnt come up when i start the comp, and i cant select the disk in explorer because it freezes.
ive tried everything i can think of any help would be really appreciated !!!!

Go into your bios and choose the dvd drive as the first boot device.
Save the changes and with the vista disk in the drive reboot.

i have alwready tried that... but it comes up with a blank vista looking screen after it finished loading... umm i didnt wait to long, maybe like 7mins and nothing happend, would it usually take a while to show the install thing??
