Solved need a new DESKTOP search program

Hi Shawn et all,

I miss the search engine/program from win 2000 and XP.

if I look for say... a PDF or cab or list all .exe, .pps, .xls with the word "setup" BOOM there they are.

It's just not the same. I have been using { locate32 & super finder } just wondering if there are any others.

You do realize that Vista has a built in "Search", though the right click, and start button for it were removed in SP1.
It can be re-enabled, here is how:


To restore the context menu, delete the "LegacyDisable" value under the following registry keys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\find
HKCR\CompressedFolder\shell\find
HKCR\Drive\shell\find

or Simply right click on the start button, or any file or folder to pull up Search...
