Narrowed down problem? System File Checker Results

Hello:

I've been following the tips from these fora quite closely, and it seems that I've narrowed down the problem for my computer to a few corrupt files. But now I've hit a wall--I can't figure out if replacing them would work and where to get a good copy of these files, and also, what are these files, other than the fact that they are startup files.

Symptom: Computer initially froze after a full problem free boot, could not open any programs. Thought may have been a problem with downloaded programs (a week ago) so uninstalled them. Computer continued to freeze, would erratically not boot in safe mode, or hang in the middle of safe mode reboot. Initially could not run system file checker till ran msconfig and hid all non MS services.

This is the log after running sfc: it says it cannot repair some files, and the sfcdetails.txt says:

2010-11-28 09:14:59, Info CSI 00000057 [SR] Cannot repair member file [1:24{12}]"acpi.sys.mui" of aci.inf.Resources, Version = 6.0.6001.18000, pA = PROCESSSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL <0>, Culture = [1:10{5}]"en-US", VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {1:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch

There are three other lines, with different CSI ______ [SR] numbers, but all from the aci.inf

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I bought my DEll M1330 preinstalled; can I do an upgrade install to fix my system files? Some of the previous threads suggested that I might only be able to do a complete install-over write only.

Thanks! 1. I am no longer getting any BSODs. 2. I ran sfc /scannow again and now have more errors that cannot be fixed (how is that possible!) This is the report: (Date, Time) Info CSI 00000057 [SR] Cannot repair member file [1:24{12}] "acpi.sys.mui" of acpi.inf.Resources etc (Date, Time) Info CSI 0000022f [SR] Cannot repair member file [1:24{12}]"acpi.sys.mui" of acpi.inf.Resources The only information that seems to vary in the six files that cannot be repaired seemed to be the string of numbers that follows Info CSI, as in: 0000026, 0000005d, 0000005f, 000001d3, 000001d5 Help! How do I read this? I have no idea how to fix this.

My Computer

should I try and use the takeown command and then try and replace the file with a known good copy? How do I know which file it is from this list of (seemingly) gibberish?

My Computer

While I was trying to post mozilla firefox froze with that shimmery white screen you can when programs freeze in Vista. So whatever's wrong with this computer, it seems to be something I can't work around.

My Computer

Do you have an Installation disk?? And or a Recovery Disk? Also do you have any good Restore Points

Many Thanks,
Josh

I tried system restore, didn't work (multiple points). I tried system repair, didn't work. I couldn't do an upgrade install with my disk as this option is not available to Dell users who bought their system preloaded. So I did a clean install. This stank. But thanks everyone. Will upgrade to windows 7 asap, I guess.

How old is this computer? I am able to get you good copies of the files, exact versions, and same MD5's and they should be for your locale, but if there are more and more getting corrupt, it could be a dying hard disk. What files are showing as corrupt?
