My pc wont share media

fieseler

Vista Guru
I've got all the options set up the same as my bro's pc, windows media player sharing service enabled, firewall set up the same. But my pc will just not share my media with his pc or ps3.

I am able to "see" his media library and the ps3 can too, but my bro's pc will detect my pc, but not be able to "see" my media library. The ps3 will just not be able to pick mine up at all and vice versa.

The image shows the connection from my pc, note my PC is the one called CA*****, my bro's is DA****. My bro's just wont show CA*****'s library in the playlist, but will successfully detect the ps3 as "unknown device"

My network folder doesnt display the media folder for my pc also, so this might be the cause of the problem.

I have tried uninstalling the firewall which makes no difference, everything else seems to be set up the same also.

This was caused by my upgrade to quad core & resulted in corrupting my windows media player drm store.

To solve, go to

C:\Programdata\microsoft\windows\drm

Delete all these files after backing them up to a seperate folder.

Hmm... Another reason to stay away from DRM?

Well this is a (was a) fresh install that i backed up before i changed my processor, with basic programs installed like office etc. No drm involved afaik.

Vista apparantly comes with some drm components already which dont like it when you change a key component in your pc, kind of like the windows activation where it deactivates if you change the processor or motherboard.

There are loads of tutorials telling you how to fix this problem, but its taken me around 12 hours because not one of them mentioned the DRM folder being in C:\Programdata\microsoft\windows\drm, they either were for XP or sent me to C:\Programdata\microsoft\drm.

Fair enough. Nonetheless, this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't DRM, correct? The very fact that you have to worry about it means it's less desirable - personally, I'd rather have music that plays for sure *cough cough*.
