My old pioneer A-Z360 amp has a DAT input.

My old pioneer A-Z360 amp has a DAT input, could I plug s/pdif coaxial into it?

Could I plug a s/pdif coaxial into the DAT input from my soundcards s/pdif coaxial out?

The amp has an optical in toslink also but the onboard sound from my motherboard only has a s/pdif coaxial out. It's a digital amplifier even tho it's an old amp. It's in great condition and sounds just as good as it looks for it's age.
I think it would do a better job than the onboard sound if i passed it through to the amp to deal with.

Yeah i got a new board that has tos link optical out instead of just a coax digital out. My amp takes both but the board i was going to get just had coax out. My amps coax input is called a DAT input? It's an old amp & i was not sure if the DAT input would take coax from any source as DAT is some old digital tape format i think?

Looks like you won't be able to hook your pc up digitally to it.. or atleast not unless you can get your audio card to emulate being a digital audio tape player or a cd player.. also it'd have to be stereo, no surround.

You're better off just hooking the amp up via analog.

I can use the tos link optical in for stereo sound, I have plugged a soundcard into the optical in the past & it worked fine aswell as a dvd player for movies & a mini disc. As for the DAT input it has a slightly higher bitrate than CD even tho it's tape? apparently DAT tape is superior to CD & that's why they still use it in recording studios today.

The amps is actually 4 speaker surround sound? must be old.
I just wondered if the DAT input would work as the board I was originally after only had coax out with no tosh. Thanks for the responses by the way.
