I need help from someone that knows everything about vista. Okay, here's the problem, there is two different user accounts to log into and two different desktops, how come when one user downloads a new program (whatever it may be) then creates a desktop shortcut. then when you log into the other user, the same short cut is there. and if that user decides that he or she does not know what it is and deletes the shortcut, then WHY is it also deleted on the other user log in?
Is there some way to turn this useless function off??? there just has to be!
please help
(if i did not word this right, or you dont know what im talking about please tell me so that i may help you help me. Thanks)
When a program is installed it installs to be used by all users by default. Some programs have the option to only install shortcuts in the current user account though.
The shortcut was placed in the hiddenC:\Users\Public\Desktop folder to display on all user accounts to be shared. You can move it to the C:\(Users\(user name)\Desktop folder to only have it displayed in that user account's desktop instead.
You will also notice the same thing in the Start Menu in these hidden folders below.
All user accounts: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Specific user acount only: C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Double check to make sure that you have Show hidden files and folders selected in the tutorial below to see them. Afterwards select Do not show hidden files and folders to hide them back.
