Sorry if this question has been asked. I have not
been able to find a thread resolving my question.
I have a desktop w/ built-in NIC (Intel-Pro) which supports
an Ethernet cable and I also wanted to support Wireless via
a USB device after completing the updates.
I originally installed Vista with the NIC, downloading updates,
adding new programs and so on, including one with AVG AV,
but I don't believe this issue is with AVG but with my network
setup. I have setup the NIC with a static IP address and all
went well; AVG had no issues connecting for an update.
However,
When I proceeded to install the Wireless USB, I ran into problems.
It seems that when I disconnected the Ethernet cable, rebooted,
and expected the USB Wireless to kick in, it did not do so by
default. I was forced to manually connect to the USB Wireless
in order to obtain a network connection. Of course, AVG failed to
start because it could not find an Internet device to connect to
and "failed", but works only if I had manually activated the USB
Wireless device.
The question here, is do I need to delete the NIC network configuration
so that the "default" USB Wireless device is seen and to automatically
connect?
Is one allowed to keep both the NIC and the USB Wireless settings but
making sure that either the cable is disconnected or the USB Wireless
device is removed before booting up?
Please advise.
Thanks!
