The easy way to avoid a lot of sound problems in Media Player 11 is this.

First Open Media Player 11 and make sure you have classic menus enabled. Second click on Tools and select options. Then select the devices tab, and select the optical drive you are trying to rip MP3's from. When the properties for your optical drive are open within Media Player 11, set both Playback to Digital, and Rip to Digital and check the Use Error Correction box and then click apply and finally close the Media Player 11 properties.

I find this eliminates a lot of problems for me. I do hope this helps you.
