mouse and vistax64

My mouse likes to do strange this and especially when I play cs. When I aim it will move side to side in awkward ways and the recoil goes really high up with only shooting a couple shots. Everyone that plays knows that this isn't normal and I can't get it to stop. Anyone I know that has looked at it thinks its an enigma of why it does this so please if anyone has any help for me it would be nice to know. I have also tried 2 different mice and the one was brand new and I have had the connections on the board tested and they tested fine.

My Computer

- OS having problems, both XP and Vista, currently on vista

- Games which have this problem UT3, BF2, BF2142, FEAR, Timeshift, Bioshock, Medal of Honor, pretty much every game except rts's and Half Life series including Counter Strike.

- Do not have anything else plugged into the USB slots

Now ill try to explain the problem as best as I can, what I am experiencing is not] "Mouse Lag" (in the sense that I have already moved my mouse to my desired position but the cursor in game has yet to get there) but rather a "Mouse Slowdown" of some sort.

What happens is in the above games the mouse movement is rather slow, not slow like it takes ages for me to move the mouse, but its like the mouse cursor is drunk and is experiencing the effect that happens in FEAR when you go into slowmode.

Another example can be that if you enable "show mouse trails" the trails give a feeling as if the mouse is moving quite slow, thats the feeling I have in game.

If anyone has the UT3 demo, you know how the mouse moves in the menu yea?, well thats the type of movement I have in game.

This problem has nothing to do with the in game settings, my friend who has an ati 9600 runs UT3 demo on ultra low at 800 x 600 and does not have this problem, albeit he does have this problem in the menu as most of you do. I however tried those settings on my laptop and still have that horrible mouse slowdown effect.

What is causing this, how can I sort this problem out its really getting on my nerves

I have suffered this lag for months, I have researched extensively and apparently nobody has posted a solution. I tried different mouses (wireless and cable) with different settings with no good results. Until now:

I found an obscure Microsoft presentation with a good explanation:

http://research.microsoft.com/users...003-Baudisch-Interact03-HighDensityCursor.ppt

Solution: Un-Select "Display pointer trails" you will find this option in Control Panel -> Mouse -> Pointer Options

I have tried this solution in 2 different laptop computers both running Vista x64 ultimate, and I'm happy with the results so far.

Good luck

-when you tried it on the other computors did you use the same mouse pad ?
-I've had a mouse on a clients system , where it would shoot to the side sometimes or stop then speed up as you moved it ,or play nice all day - turned out to be the mouse pad with our complany decal on it , only took three service calls . lol
