Hi Oiramed, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Since you already have all of the other components, I would say it would cheaper to get a new motherboard for them. However, if these are the same components that you have in your current system, then you may not see much if any performance increase by only upgrading to a better motherboard.

Yes, your hard drive will be able to connect to motherboard's only IDE connector without any problems. It is the same thing.

Here's the link to your motherboard's website for more information and available downloads for it.

Hope this helps,

Power supply, Case, dvd/cd drive and make sure your current cpu is compatible with your motherboard....

Depending on the Case you might also need better cooling....

Jeremy

Edit:from just a quick search that motherboard might not be compatible with a P4

That depends, there are micro atx boards and atx boards. Pretty much you need to find out what your case accepts and then find out what your new board is.

Jeremy

Edit: Your new board is the atx form factor, also many cases from big companies (hp, dell, sony, etc.) can be a real pain to upgrade with. Although this isnt always the case.

Oiramed,

If the new board is the same size as your newer ATX type ASUS P5Q Pro board, then it should fit in your current case. If the old one is smaller, then the new one will not fit.

LOL,

From what I could find, the asus p4sd-vx was made only for the OEM Sony computers. However, I could not find anything that confirmed if it was a ATX or micro-ATX formfactor. I just figured it was easier since he already had both boards. ;)

asus p5q pro mobo
radeon hd4850 vid card
intel 2 quad core q6600( im still planning to buy it, should i go for this one? )
2g ddr2 ram(ill probably buy another 2g)
barracuda 7200.7 (120 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/100)
300 power supply (i seriously would need a better one, which psu should i get?)

thanks alot guys....hopefully i could finish rebuilding my new pc nxt week.. :)

Oiramed,

I'm sure your new motherboard will come with a manual to show you where to connect the wires from the case to the board. Here is a screenshot of that manual page to help you get familiar with it until your new board arrives.

After you click on the image, click on the white X at the bottom left corner to see the full size of the image.

As for the power supply there are many choices. I really dont know which you would need, but just for you to compare you can look at my system specs. I run a 600w NZXT power supply, paid around $60.00 for it. I havent had any problems yet.

If you are planning to run two gfx cards in the future than you will need something that is more powerful. Go to someplace like newegg.com, there are typically reviews on everything.

Good thread with lots of good info :)

Your case is more then likely a mATX case. I say that because 90% of OEMs use small cases. As PSUs go, any 500w+ Antec, Corsair, TT, or any other reputable brand should work. Just make sure your case can accept a normal size PSU. I would also upgrade the hard drive to something with the SATA interface. You'll get a warranty first of all and less of a bottleneck in the system. The Q6600 is a very good choice for a CPU BTW.

Decent mid tower cases are not that much and if you can live with a cheap case they can be had for around $20, sometimes less. Some cases come with a psu as well, but they are usually not the best quality.

i found an antec 650watts psu on best buy and its for sale for 99$...

but im not sure of it thou... i might plan to buy another vid card...so i look for an 800w+ range psu... and i found Antec TPQ-850 850W on newegg for 139$...

so for 40$ more... the 850w would probably more suitable for me... but im not planning to buy another vid card yet... probably when new games will come out that will need me to get another one for better gaming experience... :)

i'd probably use my old roomates pc casing(its really big)...ill just rip off all the parts... well, i already did... ive been studying on it for a while... and i already took off the mobo, psu, and cpu...:sa:
