Hi broot22,

I would recommend that you opt for a widescreen LCD/TFT monitor with a resolution of at least 1440 x 900. The monitor which I am currently using, a ViewSonic VA1912w, operates at this resolution and has a typical response time of 5ms. It also has in-built stereo speakers. This monitor has only a VGA input, so it means that the graphics card in the machine needs to have either a VGA output or a DVI-I connector with suitable adapter. If your chosen monitor has both a DVI connector as well as the older VGA type, you may use either to link it up with your system. If your system has both types of socket and you want the best image on screen, then use the DVI interface. The faster the response time, the better, so in this case if you have a monitor at 2ms it is better than a monitor at 5ms. Note that it is not possible to use a monitor with a DVI input on a graphics card with only a VGA output, however it is possible to do this the other way round and connect a monitor with a VGA input to a graphics card with a DVI-I output. In this case, the graphics card will need a DVI-I output as opposed to a DVI output. DVI-I indicates that the socket also carries the analogue signal as well as the digital signal.

Hi broot22,

Both of these monitors are available for a similar price and offer good value for money. However, I would opt for the LG L226WTQ monitor. Although this monitor doesn't include audio capabilities, unlike the ASUS MW221U which does, the picture quality should be a lot sharper with a contrast ratio of 3000:1 as opposed to 700:1 for the ASUS. As all other graphics specifications are equal, and the price of the LG is slightly cheaper, I would go for this model unless you want built-in speakers. Even if you want speakers, I would still go for this model and buy separate speakers as you will get a better sound quality.

Newegg.com - SAMSUNG 206BW Black 20" 2 ms (GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 800:1 (DCR 3000:1) - LCD Monitors

Is what I use currently, I got it for an amazing price of $209 with free shipping, this monitor is AMAZING flat out a widescreen is the way to go. Especially if you like watching DvDs on your PC. My best bit of advice is to read as many reviews as you can on different websites, such as newegg tomshardware and just research research research, remember cheaper isn't always better. But getting your moneys worth isn't that hard just do a little work it will go a long way to a great monitor.
