Monitor Resolution

Hello, This started yesterday. What happens is, every time I boot into Vista the resolution is different than it should be. It is 1600 x 1200 instead of 1680 x 1050. So then I have to change it back to normal. This isn't too bad of a problem it is just kind of annoying .

Does anyone know how to help?

When you change it to 1680x1050 do you get any warnings about it being out of range for either the monitor or the video card ?

No, it just changes like normal.

I've had the same problem with my Samsung SyncMaster 24". I like the resolution at 1920x1200, but I can't keep it there. Frequently (not every time) when I power up, or reboot, it gets reset to 1600x1200. I have 2 computers connected (KVM) to this monitor - the other is an XP Pro SP2 system. The XP system has no problems retaining resolution at 1920x1200.

I've tried everything I know with no improvement in the problem. I'd dearly love to solve this - it's easy enough to reset the resolution, but I shouldn't have to. Something is amiss and it nags at me that I can't fix it.

Thanks Lemur - after posting I checked for a new driver and found one had just been released. I've updated and we'll see if that helps.

As for refresh rate - in the previous driver only 2 rates were available - 59 & 60, and I did try 59 a time or two with no change in the situation. In the new driver only 60Hz is available.

I'll give it a day or two and post the results from the new driver here; good or bad.

This is a nifty little app - THANKS!

It turns out, though, that I may not need it. I've apparently (I can't be sure it won't come back until I've worked with it for a few days) the new x64 driver has solved the problem. Not by itself, though. I was poking around on Samsung's site and found an x64 driver for the monitor. After installing the new NVIDIA driver, and installing Samsung's driver, NVIDIA now recognizes 1920x1200 as the NATIVE resolution - which seems to indicate that the problem is solved... we shall see.

Lemur, if you haven't already, make sure you've got the very latest drivers installed, including a driver for your monitor, if available.

After two days and multiple reboot/power up events I have not seen the problem of reverting to a lower resolution. 1920x1600 PERSISTS! One exception was afterr a crash (caused by a video game) wherein the OS lost track of the Monitor Driver. It was easy to tell because the properties had reverted to a "generic" monitor and the resolution 1920x1600 (native) had disappeared.. I reinstalled the monitor driver and all has been well since.

For me, at least, this problem is solved. Thanks for everyone's help, and Good luck Lemur!
