MLGPO problems

hi. I'm running vista home basic.
i have 4 laptops running this to, they all need to 'locked down' as they are for a local youth group which kids from the age of 13-19 will be using them.
i have been asked to restrict what the young people can and cart acess/do.
I was hoping to use the MLGPO but when trying to add the snap-in i get a message telling me that this is not avaliable in vista home basic. this now becomes a problem as i have no way of restricting what users can do.

does anyone know of a way to install/acess the MLGPO on vista home basic?
or
Does anyone know of any third party software that is able to do what the MLGPO can do? (this needs to be free as funds are now depleated)


any suggestions will be most helpfull!

Hi Matt,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

Sorry, the Group Policy feature is only available for the Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise versions. It cannot be added to the Home Basic version.


You can setup and use Parental Controls to restrict access though.

such a shame that Microsoft feel the need to leave out useful and important things in their OS's.

I've had a play with the parental controls be for, there very fiddly. but i will have a look at the guide that you have provided.

Flip though the other tutorials as well. They will show you how to enable and disable things in Vista for all versions using the registry instead of Group Policy. Most will have a download to make it easy to do.
