Microsft Office 2010 trial free download

Has anyone ever experienced the following problem? If so was there a cure?

Have installed office 2010 60 day free trial. After I click on the shortcut Microsoftword 2010, a window pops up and says "Type your 25-character Product Key". I cut and paste the key in that was given to me and after a few seconds I get a message below the box that says " The key you have entered is valid". This is in green and there is also a green check mark beside the box where I entered the product key.

I then hit the continue button. After a few seconds I get a message in red that says "Installing the product key failed. Please try another product key" There is also a red "X" beside the box where I entered the product key.
How do I correct this?

I've made sure that there isn't another version on my desk top, I uninstalled/reinstalled. I saw on a web site to contact the activation center but when following the steps to determine the activation center tele # for my area at one point it says to start the microsoft application. Well that's the problem. It won't start when entering the product key.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this? If I can't get this resolved then I would like to find some other software that works just as well as microsoft word.

Thanks in advance

OK so to be clear you installed the trial, then bought a product key and entered it? And since this happens when you click the shortcut, I assume your trial period has also expired, correct? Finally, did you have a different version of MS Office installed before now? If you could post pics of those screens you get it would help. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/289032-screenshots-files-upload-post-vista-forums.html

No...I downloaded the free 60 trial from the Microsoft web site. The product key came with the download. I did not purchase a product key. No....there was not another version of Microsoft on my PC. I don't have a screen shot yet because I completely removed it, in hopes of trying it one more time.

Um I don't think the trial version should come with a key... if you didn't download it from Try Office 2010 - Office.com then you might have a problem. Can you post the link where you got it from if that isn't it? Idk, maybe they do have keys for trials, but that sounds wrong. Were you ever able to open MS Word, or did it start doing this recently? How long ago did you download and install it? Well if it still gives you issues after you reinstall screenshots would help. Otherwise, if that fixes it, great. Also, this site may help if if you have problems reinstalling it. How do I uninstall Office 2003, Office 2007 or Office 2010 suites if I cannot uninstall it from Control Panel?

Hi,
Merely for information purposes only.
I also had the 60 day free trial download for Office2010.
This did NOT come with any trial product key or Product Key of any description.
If I remember correctly, as the offer was closing you were then given the choice of purchase, where product key or whatever was exchanged, not until money changed hands were you given any activation key!

I wanted to see what Office2010 had to offer?
I declined the offer because I'm happy with Office2007.

Thank you.

I downloaded the MS Office Home & Business 2010 trial version.
It does come with a product key ( I removed it when I posted this screenshot ). But I don't need it to activate the trial version.

Hmm. That's weird. Is it the same key for everyone or does it change? If it changes he can probably just install it, then redownload it and use the key that comes with the second one to activate the one he installed when it asks him for the key. I think. I don't know how that whole thing works, but that might do it, if it's giving him invalid key errors.

Can't attach a screen print. When trying to attach it, I keep getting some kind of error that says "screenprint.abw Invalid file. Usingn AbiWord until I can get Office work. Any way I'll try to describe this the best I can. After I download Microsoft Office Home Student 2010 Free 60 Trial, I click on any of the applications....word, excel, powerpoint etc. Another window opens up and at the top of that window it says Enter your Product Key. Below that there is a small box and just above it, it says Type your 25-character Product Key and to the right of that there the "continue" button. So I cut and paste in the product key that was sent with the download. A GREEN check mark appears to to the right of the box. Then below the box in GREEN it says "The key you have entered is valid". Next I have hit the continue button after entering my product key. After a few minutes to the right of the box appears a RED X. Below the box in RED it says "Installing the product key failed. Please try another product key."

I only have one product key and that is the one that came with the free download. I haven't been able to contact Microsoft for help. I can only get their survey which doesn't do me any good. Would like to try the 60 free trial before I make a purchase but the way things are going to set up the free trial, that might not happen.

I have checked my pc over and over and I haven't been able to find an older version on here. I might try Microsoft 2007.

Sorry for the long post.

Also, that might mean a permission problem. Run your program as an administrator (right click, Run as Administrator, then allow the UAC prompt that comes up) and see if that fixes it.

@richc46, I heard that OpenOffice doesn't support the new Office 2010 files. Is this true? Or was that already fixed?

In 2010 Open office became compatible with Office 2007. They are working on 2010, now.
In the meantime, I think this workaround would solve the problem
You will need to save the office files with the encoding of the older versions ( as simple as selecting save as and selecting the file type ).
If you just save without changing the file type, then you will have an incompatibility problem

Ok that's what I thought. So as long as he doesn't already have any 2010 files he needs to use (and it sounds like he doesn't, since he's just now getting the trial) then OpenOffice sounds like it'll work great if he can't fix his key error.

Thanks everybody for the help. I think that I am going to download the OpenOffice Suites since that is suppose to work almost a good as Microsoft 2010. Maybe after the 60 day trial is up Microsoft might send me a survey and maybe then I can express the difficulty I had with their product, which resulted in my not wanting to use it.
