I am currently running Windows Vista on a quad core intel chip the q9450. Every time I put a dvd in the drive and run another program like clock work vista goes into the memory management error. Could I have bad memory on my hands?

It could be bad RAM, or maybe just not enough. Run MEMTEST86 and the Vista Memcheck to find out.
