Media Player

Since installing a large Vista update last week, I have been unable to get video attachments to play directly out of Windows Mail. I get the audio but no video. When I open Media Player, while the audio is running, I see the picture. This would be cumbersome but workable except that I can't close the video at this point without rebooting. It has been suggested to me that I should save the file and play it outside of Windows Mail. I tried this but the video still gets locked up and I have to reboot to turn it off. Should I reinstall Windows Mail or Media Player or both? Video files from web sources such as Youtube work fine.

Do you have any codec packs installed?

I do not know what a codec pack is, but I did just get a fix for the problem through the Microsoft help desk by calling the phone number listed at Help and Support
The help was free as it was related to Service Pack 1 (SP1). The trouble shooting process took about one hour. The fix entailed uploading the latest updates for the display adapter (NVIDIA Ge Force Go 6150) even though I had the latest version (7.15.10.9815 dated 2/27/2007). Apparently SP1 requires this NVIDIA update but did reach out and upload it during installation.

Glad you got it sorted.
