Media Player issues

Hello all,
I've been using vista for about 8 months now, and I just built a new computer running Vista Prem x64. After working out a bunch of issues I've got it running pretty good, except when I use Media Player. Everythime I open it (if it will open) after about 5-10 min of use, it crashes my system. Everything locks up, nothing will respond and finally I get a black screen and have to hard reboot. Then I have to use my install DVD to recover my system.

I've had some issues with my wife's Emachine using Vista Basic 32 bit, so I upgraded it to Prem 32 bit, and now it's works great. So I'm wondering if my issue is due to it being 64 bit.

I think since I've installed this OS (x64 Prem) on my system I've had to recover it 8 times due to Vista crashing. The only thing I've done is update my Nvidia drivers from 163.75 to 169.04. I thought that might have been a issue to I changed them back to 163.75, and still the same issue. I'm kind of at a lost here, any advice would be great.

Thanks.

Hi Technogeek,
Please check your event logs and it should give a error code you can search microsoft.com for and give you an explanation as to why Vista is crashing. The event logs are located > Control Panel > administrative tools > look for Windows logs > "system log" and "application log"

Thanks a bunch, I did just that, and the code I got was c000218 which is registry file failure. By what I can tell, there are a lot of reason this code happens. I do remember when I used my recovery disk, there were two errors on my HDD, and it fixed them, after that it still would not load the OS, so I had to use the recovery disk again, and this time it took almost a hour to fix 2 issues. Like I've said I've had to do this a few times, so I wonder if it's just a issue with the OS being 64 bit and most software drivers only being 32. I have the OEM version, so I only have the x64 OS. I pretty sure it won't fix my issues, but maybe SP1 will help.
