McAfee Virus Scan

I have a Gateway Laptop w/Vista OS,AMD Dual Core processor & 3 gig of memory, running McAfee virus scan software.
Problem is that the scan might take over 12 hours (estimated) to complete a full scan. (I've never completed a full scan, I usually shut it off @ 12 hrs.) I now just run the short scan.

How do I get a reasonable scan time with McAfee?

Welcome
Many AV software do not work the way they should with Vista.
My suggestion, make a system restore point, now.
You will be able to go back if not happy.
Then download Security Essentials after you uninstall McAfee. I think that you will be very pleased lwith the results.

By the way. Security essentials was made for windows and has no annual or other costs.
Other AntiVirus have, also caused several BSODs in the past

The Windows Security Suite you recommend will not install on the laptop, even with the firewall down. Says there is an error. I took McAfee & spybot off. What's up with the installation????

See if this administrator can install, if not try in safe mode

Can you give me the precise error?

I appreciate the help. I gave up & deleted the Windows Security Suite. I tried a few more times & decided that I didn't want to fool with the "administrator" thing. I simply can't believe that a windows operating system won't readily install another Windows program. I have had more problems installing Windows/software/updates with this Vista than all of the other Windows operating systems that I have owned over the years. The common computer Joe should be able to quickly install windows updates without all this switch to another operator thing. What a waste of my time, this Vista. I went ahead & installed Avast Free & it went the very fist time I hit "run" & install. I'll stay with that for the time being. Thanks anyway!

Your very welcome
Avast, too, has a very good reputation.
