Is there any way to make maximized windows transparent WITHOUT 3rd party?

If you use the Sea Turtle - "Pictures\Sample Pictures\Green Sea Turtle" as your desktop background, your taskbar and window borders look a lot more transparent.

There's no way to enable transparency, that I know of, while maximized.
On XP there was a way using the nVidia desktop manager. It doesn't work on Vista.

If you can find VistaGlazz 1.1 that's what I'm using. Just make a restore point before trying it. Without any other theme change it will give maximized glass on window borders.
I've heard there's some bugs in the 2.x versions so I'd try to find 1.1.

I forgot about VistaGlazz. I tried it. You might notice some weird glitches though.
I personally didn't like it as much as the normal Vista Aero.

I have Vista 64 SP1 and Glazz 1.1 has been working well for me. I don't care so much about glass border when maximized but it allows me to use some minimal themes such as Vista Purple theme by just using the .msstyles file. I don't replace a bunch of system files just to get exotic components. Some transparency in the start menu and taskbar and I'm happy.
