Major Monitor Problem

Ok.. So Im no Expert in computers or anything like that but I usually solve my own problems on my PC. But this is killing me..

My Monitor is (Samsung SyncMaster 2253LW)

It's.. Really hard to explain what happens and also I don't know why it's happening aswell.

My Resolution right now is 1680*1050(On my Desktop)

But when i Start up my computer.. its 800*600 so.. When I start up my pc.. It's just flashing back and forth a black screen and the second it goes to the start up Menu(Where i log in).. Everything is fine.. Also When i Try to even play games.. It does the same thing and just continues to flash back and forth untill I close the game.

I Belive this has somthing to do with my Display Settings and thats where the problems being caused.. So you can see in the picture I have 1680*1050 and the other one disabled? But when I Restart my PC.. It changes to that disable one. When i Reboot my pc.. the resolution is smaller then the screen so theres these two large black columns on the side and i just changed my resolution and got the same results. (Btw Im Using Screen #1).. Also I Cannot increase resolution of Screen #2.. Only stays at 800*600

If Anyone knows how to solve my Problem.. Please.. Im in need of desperate help. Thanks

Lets make sure it is not driver problems. Go to search, type-device manager-. Once inside look around, any yellow markers? If not, go to display, click, make sure that you have the most up to date driver. If it is older than 7/09, go to company website and update. This may solve your problem. On the other hand it may not, then just repost.

Lets first check the drivers, make sure that is OK. If so I have already found some information that may help.

.. Im Too Affraid to try anything at all now.. I just tried to do somthing to my pc and I couldn't even boot back up up. It keeps flashing back and forth a blank screen and I cant see anything.

What information might help?

My Computer

This is a gpu driver issue. Also, why have you extended the desktop to have 2 monitors, and only 1 physical screen? You need to unclick "Extend my Desktop"

This is your driver you need.
NVIDIA DRIVERS 258.96 WHQL

I think you need to quite trying random things, and take a step back and breath. This is fixable.

Youre going to need to reboot into safe mode, usually f8 at the boot screen, then do a restore to the last point. That should fix the black screen.

I Didn't extend it.. It was like that? Do you know how I can get rid of it so it only shows 1 Monitor?

Also as you see it doesn't give me the option to unclick to extend screen.

My Computer

I see whats going on... You've selected the other adapter then stuck two pics together... My mistake. As the card has 2 outputs, you'll see 2 choices... I have 4 choices as I have 2 cards.
You can't un-extend as you won't have a screen selected at all.

Try dumbing down the resolution... But honestly, you need to update the drivers first.

I wasn't sure if you had gotten your screen back, so lower res will sometimes brings things back into acceptable regions.

Has the problem gone away? Just updating drivers can reset the files that are screwing you.

Your fix is easy, if i could tell you exactly what file they are talking about...... But I'm not sure which inf file theyre editing.

Edit

Heres a driver for your monitor

Add that too.

Sorry, don't have any of those, msn, yahoo etc.

If none of this is working, your card might be dieing. Do you have a second computer you can try it in?

Can you get the card on and showing the desktop?

You can test the memory with this: Folding@home - DownloadUtils the memtestg80 program.

or pop it into another computer.

Its impossible to see whats on the screen.. Its like this

First black...............Second.......third..4,5,6,(Keeps going doesnt pause any more) and then I'll just see my screen flashing black (Its Digital so I can see like.. Black.. then this little glow of black flashing back and forth)

If i was to open my hardrive and take a look at my graphics card(Never done before), would i be able to easily notice damage if there was damage on it?

My Computer

No there isn't... You could try booting into safe mode, f8 on boot i believe, and see if it'll work.

It loads no drivers so if its a driver/windows issue, it should boot okay... If it doesn't... oh oooooooh.

To open the case, just undo the 2 screws and slide it open, but there will be no signs though.

Means its 90% hardware. Now if you can find a second computer to try the card in, it'd confirm it.
