Mail rule precedence

I'm considering moving over to windows mail. In the program I currently use I have a lot of filters that sort my mail for me. Before I start setting up rules in windows mail, how does the precedence work? For instance, I check multiple e-mail accounts and each account has it's own folder. But some e-mails, like from my parents, I want them to go to a different folder. Do the rules only act on each e-mail once so that only the first rule that matches is applied, or does it go down the list of rules applying each match and the last rule that matches is the one that holds? Thanks

Welcome
It sorts by first rule, then second rule etc.
If first rule is not present, it sorts by second rule. etc
If you have a first rule that sorts from parents, it will sort in that order.

May I suggest, before downloading WM, make a system restore point and then test the mail. If not happy go back with the System Restore

Thanks, but I'm still unclear how the program works...

Let's say my first rule says that if the "to" field contains [email protected] then put the e-mail in the "me" folder. My second rule says if the "from" field contains [email protected] put the e-mail in the "mom" folder.

So now I get an e-mail addressed to [email protected] from [email protected]. It goes to the first rule and matches so it moves it to the "me" folder. Does it then go to the next rule, matches it, and moves the e-mail to the "mom" folder? Or once any rule is matched, it follows that rule and moves onto the next e-mail.

Once matched it should move on. Make the System Restore as suggested and if not liked you can remove it easily.
