Lost windows and program settings

Hi

I recently installed Microsoft Outlook 2007 on my PC.

When I installed it I had to do several updates to the PC (some were major updates, not sure what they all were).

When all the updates were completed and the PC restarted everything had changed.

- The custom desktop image had changed to the default desktop image
- All the icons I had on my desktop were now gone (shortcuts and office documents)
- When using Adobe CS4, I am now prompted to register the product when I access it, even thought it is already registered
- Other applications that previously loaded on system startup do not load.

Does anyone have any idea as to what has happened to my PC and how i can get it back to normal?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Steven

Hi welcome to the forum.
It is possible that with downloading MO/07 plus all the updates that either a corrupt file or update upset the system.
Before e go further, could you please try a clean boot
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
If that does not work, could you do the following:-

First, to assist in the elimination of possible virus and/or malware.
I would ask you to please use your Anti-virus full scan program facilities, making sure, you have updated the software first. Please advise us of the results.
If you do not have any anti-virus loaded please go to this link and download Microsoft Security Essentials :- Microsoft Security Essentials | Protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware
Secondly, please download:- malwarebytes Malwarebytes a Malware searching program, again, an updated full scan. Notify results please. Both these programs are Freeware

Thank you.
