Hello all, im new, so i appologise in advance if this is the wrong section (seemed the most appropraite section to me)

Basically my gf's pc started to mess up alot, she was using it at uni with no internet connection but as soon as she finished uni and brought it back and started using the internet it started playng up, so she got it formated, but alas, no vista disc, she still has the product code on a sticker on the PC itself.
She has already paid for vista so is there a way of getting the vista disc (for her pc) for free??

if so/if not where can i get one and will this work ok??

Cant you borrow one from a friend ,perfectly legal proviving you use her own serial number .
Im sure you could also aquire one from certain other sites , but be aware of the risks involved in that .

Hi and welcome to the Vista Forums.

I believe you can borrow a friend's Vista disk, provided it's a full and not an upgrade. Upon putting the PC's key, it should automatically choose the version from the CD and install it. If it doesn't work, you only have to call Microsoft.

I looks like she got some virus or spyware when on the internet, a scan with a good antivirus would've been enough, depending on the antivirus you use.

Edit: Wow I took time writing that O.o

And seeing your question, I think yours are recovery, and that's why it doesn't work.

You just need to find someone that has a full version of Vista and borrow their CD, maybe a friend or someone you know, as long as it's a full version, you shouldn't have problems.

We need to determine something - if you had Vista already installed on the machine when you bought it - you need an OEM disc.
If it was an upgrade - you need an upgrade disc.
OR if you bought the full retail version - you need the full retail disc.

each key is different.
