Hi folks,

I really hope someone can help. I have lost 2 important folders saved on my desktop while i was downloading a game from a disk. I have tried system restore but to no avail. I am at a complete loss and would appreciate some help.

Thanks in anticipation.

Start > Start Search. If not found, you might have to undo the last system restore. and Start Search again .

BTW, is it possible to edit your profile to post your PC system under your name?

Hello Kerching,

In addition to CoolNewYorker's post:

If you have Vista Ultimate, then you may be able to use Previous Versions to restore the file from it's original location. If it was the desktop, then the original location would be from C:\Users\(user name)\Desktop if needed.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thank for the help so far. I have been able to find shortcut icons for the lost files/folders by using search but when i click on them to open, a window opens stating that the items have been moved to another folder. Undoing restore did not help other than removing icons from the desktop. I am on vista home basic.

Cheers folks.

Ok, so find out where they have been moved too. Right click the icon, > Properties > General tab. and find the Location. Then hunt for them. Chances are they are on C: \users\ etc. BTW, have you checked the trash can (Recycle bin)?

To go to Local disk (C), double click on Computer > double click on Local Disk [C:] and follow the trail from Location

BTW, it is easier what to tell you , if your OS is posted under your name.

Kerching,

You might also try the free program Recuva to see if it can restore the files for you. It is a subsititute for Previous Versions since you do not have Ultimate.
