Lost control

I cannot do system restore, nor regedit, and the task manager is disabled. AntiVir has found nothing in a full scan. Any ideas?

Hi Julian,

This sounds like a Trojan or some other malware has infested your computer. I would include a good scan with Spybot Search & Destroy also.

Thanks for those ideas. I cannot get into the cmd prompt, and it ignores the right click to run as admin. Loaded Spybot, but it will not allow me to run it. Spyware Dr indicates it is scanning in the Taskbar, but cannot open the screen to see findings!

Then the next thing I'd recommend is a system restore to a point before this started happening. You can access it through the start menu or via the Vista DVD.

If you can't do a system restore, then the next step would be to repair the system files with the Vista DVD.

Will it let you boot into Safe Mode to see if it will let you do this there?

I had to power off since the machine would not respond to normal commands. That allowed boot up in Safe Mode, where I was able to install Spybot, which found a pile of rubbish. Got rid of that stuff and was able to get things running again. Thanks for the wisdom.
