Further to my previous post re the same problem I have delved a bit deeper and would like any opinions as to a possible cause.
What happens is I will be surfing the net then for no apparent reasons my connection goes, well let's say i am unable to open new webpages.
When this happened last night, after numerous router reboots to get net back, I observed the following.
Opening network connections showed a picture of a PC , a white tick in a green box with the comment Broadband Connection Disconnected WAN Miniport(PPPOE)
With this displayed I had no problem opening new web pages at all!
Clicking Nertwork disgnostics I get the following
Windows has confirmed that this computer is currently experinecing a network connectivity problem. Unable to fix automatically.
If I look at the Network and Sharing centre the line between my router and the internet has a nice red cross on it, even though as I say I can surf the net normally!
Now there was a mention of Winsock.
MS support says how to determine and recover from Winsock2 corruption in Windows Server 2003, XP and Vista
Going to the manual steps to determine whether Winsock2 is corrupt there is a lot of items but Part 3 mentions 10 sections but I see 14.
The MS help screen shows 6 entries beginning MSAFD Netbios I don't have any of these entries
I have done a successful reset of Winsock as per MS but still the problem persists.
As stated before this happens with any router connected to my PC.
Problem may go away for a day, or may re-occur with in minutes or hours. Rebooting the router , once, twice or maybe more is required to get the net back.
Sorry for such a long message.
Am confused
