Loading Broadcom 64-bit drivers

I have updated 32-bit Vista Home to 64-bit on a Dell i1720 laptop. I have loaded the required 64-bit Nvidia and WiFi link 4965agn drivers and they work fine. But, for the life of me I cannot get the 64-bit Broadcom drivers to load. The Broadcom FAQ warns not to use Device Manager to update these drivers. Instead, in bold letters, it says to use the latest Driver Installation Software. I have scoured the site for this app but failed to find it. I've concluded that I must be misunderstanding the instruction. Has anyone completed this operation and if so where is the app that allowed you to continue. Or, is there another interpretation?

What is the actual device that the Broadcom drivers are for?
Having a look on thier website they support quite a few devices.

Hey Roy
Thanx for the reply. The 64-bit Broadcom driver for vista64 that I want to use will be the replacement for the 32-bit Broadcom LAN driver that is part of the Vista 32 package that came with my machine. My problem, as stated, is trying to find out how to load it.

Evening Roy,

Yep, I've been to those sites but they form a circular non-information group. None, ISTM, actually give you the site at which the driver package can be found (unless I'm wrong.) Where is it? Others seem to have found it according to their stats but its beyond me. Did you ever find a site that held this package? If you google the package title the word "install" is in the result but I found no installation app. What a mess! BTW, how could I load the drivers manually? I've tried to manipulate the .inf file but had no luck. Hopefully, I'm just all wrong and you can correct me.

I've tracked down the file necessary to install the 64-bit Broadcom Lan 4401 driver but Im afraid it isn't of much use to someone of my tech background. Getting the driver itself is straight forward from the site listed by the poster above. That's never been a problem. But, despite some incorrect posts on google, you cannot use Device Manager to install them. Broadcom says to use their installation software to do so but finding it is a nightmare. After several hours work, I found a location on the Dell site. It is called "ASFConfig.exe" and apparently can be found on a supplementary disk that comes with your Dell purchase. I don't know what a Lenovo purchaser, for example, would do to find it. Same idea I suspect. Now, knowing that, here's the problem. I checked out the switches for this installer and it became evident that for me to use it was playing with fire. They were difficult to understand. So, unless someone can come up with an easy way to install these drivers they'll remain uninstalled. Thanx to those who participated.
