Live messenger & Data Execution Prevention.

I recently upgraded to the latest version of Live messenger.
The sign in takes ages and once signed in I am immediately dropped out with a message that says 'Windows Live communications platform has stopped working'.
Then I get another message saying 'To protect your computer Data Execution Prevention has closed windows Live communications platform.'
I have looked at the 'help' description of this message, and whilst I understand what it is, I dont understand why its happening to me!
I have tried uninstalling & the reinstalling, but same message.
I have Trend micro internet security pro 2008. I have run numerous scans, but only ever get medium risk cookies showing up. Mind you I get the same ones everyday.
Any ideas??

I have a similar problem. It is more complicated than those discussed in other forums. I updated my version of messenger, disliked the newer version, and returned to v8.5.

I usually log into two diferent accounts. I am having no problems with one of them (a @hotmail.com account), but with the other one, immediately afer I log in, it is shut down by DEP. I find it very mysterious why it should cause no problems with one of the passport accounts but not with the other.

Hi Jillie,

Have you used A-Patch, Msgplus or any other messenger customization tools?

Steven

If you're using Vista, then you'll have to disable the UAC program.

Wesker, Thats complete bull**** and doesn't have anything, even remotely associated with DEP :sarc:
You just lost 50 reputation points for that remark.

Hi Ramospeon,

Messenger 8.5 doesn't support multiple logins so I assume you used A-Patch or Msgplus, Uninstall Messenger and msgplus (if installed) and also delete the Messenger directory. Reboot then Reinstall.

Since 8.5 doesnt support multiple-logins the patch program you used needs to "shim" messenger into launching multiple copies and thats whats causing the DEP crash when your trying to login with the second account so uninstalling and removing the Messenger directory should be enough to reset the configuration allowing you to start with a fresh copy of messenger and let the patch work properly when you patch it again ;)

I have the same problem, except DEP only crashes my Live Messenger when I talk to ONE specific person on Live Messenger (or they talk to me.) Starting conversations with anyone else on Live Messenger or having them start conversations with me and it works fine. Sorry I couldn't help but your not alone!

Also going to Advanced System Settings does nothing for me, when I try to get DEP to exclude Live Messenger from its operation it just says Live Messenger is something that must always be monitored by DEP :(
