I've been using Prevx 3.0 Prevx - PC and Internet Security for Home & Families, Businesses, Enterprises, Banks, Financial, eCommerce, and their customers. as a real-time adware scanner (unlike SuperAntiSypware which needs to be scheduled like the free version of MBAM) and it has caught several things (including a couple of web site warning messages) and I've found the free version to be quite good (though it is not in either list) with a very minimal resourse hit. I've run SuperAntiSpyware and Spybot Search and Destroy The home of Spybot-S&D! (which is another good free product IMHO though maybe not as good as SuperAntiSpyware and not on either list but it also must be scheduled and doesn't run in real time) just to check and they found nothing that Prevx or MSE hadn't already caught. Also missing I think is Hijack This HijackThis - Trend Micro USA which can help detect changes caused by malware and is often used by experts (I've seen Jacee use it here several times) to look for signs of infection (not as a preventive tool but as a repair/recovery tool so perhaps not appropriate for the list).

I use Prevx with MSE in real-time and run MBAM every few weeks or so just to be on the safe side (and MBAM has caught some things the others missed but nothing critical - mostly tracking cookies and a couple of minimum threat infections). I run some of the others on occasion or if I'm suspicious or if something is detected and removed (to make sure nothing else got past the first line of defense).

Only once have I gone whole hog and downloaded most of the free options listed here and in the other link and above in this post and free trials of commercial products like PandaSoft - but not Combofix as I don't have the skills to use it properly even if it is possibly the best of all if you know what you're doing (since uninstalling/removing them is such a hassle and some trials make things difficult like making you pay upfront and then cancel to get a refund) because I was sure I was infected. It turned out to be nothing - but I felt better knowing I had done a very thorough check.

Anyway, since I wasn't in the mood to register on the other site just to post these suggestions (and felt in the mood to recommend my own personal preferences and relate my one scary experience while discussing the topic), I decided to add them here for whatever they're worth.
