Laptop shows frees up space by itself?

Hey guys, I'm new here and I have a small issue (if I can call it that) with my laptop (an ASUS F8 series) .

About 2 hours ago I was messing around with it and the last thing I can remember doing was installing tweakVI on it then shutting it down. I turned it back on a couple of minutes ago and checked my C: drive - it said I had just over 9Gb free space left before I turned it off and now it says I have 17.77Gb free space.

While it's something nice to see it has got me wondering... where has it come from?

It could be any of a number of things- did you actually *run* TweakVI? If so there are a few options in there that might have cleared up space - clearing out your temp files, clearing out your System Restore Files, turning off System Restore, clearing up Volume Shadow files, and many other things as well.

Do you use Hibernation? If not, then your computer may have cleared out the hibernation file as well.

The idea here is that TweakVI would have told you what it was doing, and you should already know - and if not TweakVI then something else.

I ran tweakVI but didn't try any of the features so I'm pretty sure that's not it. I don't make use of hibernation either but I figured that if tweakVI wants to get rid of something then it would ask me first?

Depends - did you read the TweakVi instructions to see i it set that way by default?

Just thought I would update - Looks like TweakVI defaults compression to true as apparent whn I looked through so I guess that would be the reason.

Still... that's a LOT of compression
