Laptop Restarts WITHOUT reason

Hello,

Before i Explain my problem regarding my Laptop, I'd like to let you know the specifications and available options right now with me so that you can consider it while you're answering my question.

I have a DELL INSPIRON 1525 Laptop.
Windows Vista Home Basic With Genuine License.
I have Recovery Drive which came with my Laptop(a 10GB space alloted for it specially)
I have Windows Vista Home Basic DVD i think.

Problem:

I have a wierd problem.My system recently has experienced a problem. It restarts without reason. If the computer is IDLE for sometime or if nothing is performed on the computer or if i leave my computer with download on it, When i get back i see the computer restarted. I was burning a DVD & suddenly the Laptop restarted at 80% & my DVD wasted. I really got VERY annoyed looking at this.

Initially i thought it was because of overheating(as few people guessed it might be the problem). My Laptop Temp is arround 50-60 degrees now. I went to SAFE MODE & kept on nothing happened.So i came to know its NOT because of Overheating since I've Observed the Laptop restart after 20 min i started my laptop(Yes! its at a VERY VERY cool temperature).

I have seen few times, The Laptop gets a Blue Screen(Like error screen in windows XP) and in 1-2 seconds it restarts and DELL logo appears. So due to short span of time, I coudnt see the error code.(I dont have any USB's plugged in at that time).It happened 3-4 times.

I recently got an error message saying there was a critical file missing and the system needs to restart in 1 minute & system restarts.

Is it the same happening everytime?

I have Scanned my system with : NOD32, Kaspersky and everything seems to be alright.

I have Windows Vista Home DVD. Do you want me to run setup & Do you want me to try any repair option ( if available?) (I'm guessing if sys files are missing or corrupted). I'm fed up of restarts.(when idle)

Secondly, I'm using DELL laptop. I dont want to reinstall or apply factory settings since i have a lot of apps now and i really really dont want to reinstall everything.

I would like to request if Vista stores any error logs anywhere or by any application by which we can view it? so that we can eliminate the errors.

I've scanned my pc with NOD32 and Kaspersky(No, I dont run both at a time)(first i used to use nod32 and then changed to kaspersky). Nothing found.

Hi technocorner and welcome to Vista Forums

It would help us to help you if we knew what your BSODs say and also what the error message says (exact wording AND spelling, please). If possible, capture these with a digital camera and post back with the relevant images.

Hi technocorner, welcome to the board.

First, you might turn of auto restart in Advance system setting in (System Properties > Advanced Tab > Startup and Recovery button). So you will be able to see the blue screen error massages when it happened. Record the contents and post back.

Although you have been monitoring the temperatures, I still would suggest a double check on the overheat possibility by making sure the fan is spinning smoothly and the vent is free of dust.
