Laggy Internet Issues

Hey everyone, I'm new here and I'd like to start off with a question.
I'm running Vista 64bit and when I'm playing BFBC2 or CoD4 or any other demanding game in particular, I'm getting these lag spikes. It's very annoying since it mostly happens when I'm going for a nice kill.

Anyway, my connection is wireless and I'm using a sweex wirelesss lan pci card wich can receive up to 300mbs.

I'm wondering if anyone shared the same problem and might had a solution for me.

The company's going to switch me to a 8mbs network.

Just wondering, is 3mbs really enough for gaming?

you will note that most game only require a minimum of 512Kbps, while this is ample for the likes of Battlefield anything higher will enhance the update speed of you on-line matches

where you really want to worry about internet speed is when you play a game that uses P2P i.e Trackmania United or Nations (for loading Mod files) although in this example P2P is not important or relevant to game speed

In experience I don't feel that the Spikes you suffer from have anything to do with your internet speed and or connection but most likely to do with your processing of information
I too experience the odd spikes (lag) on battlefield and COD MW/2
I feel this is more fault on development side of things and or the host of the server

If you do worry that it is more than just host connection then you may make a few simple steps to improve the quality of you gaming experience

1: check every internal and external connection of your system is seated correctly I.E ram, graphics card, mouse, Keyboard ect

2: update all relevant drivers... graphics, network and so on

3: Even if your Graphics card is Top line, Try reduce the quality a little.... Game developers try to produce future proof game thus high quality settings can be far beyond what your system is designed to cope with

Ok, so I did all of that, but the lag still exists, the lag was even before I had my wireless network card, (I owned a 54mb network adapter before that, the lag was worse and lasted longer) it was the main reason I bought that thing really.... =\

Maybe then this problem lies with your firewall???

Do you run a firewall??? if so which one? Zone Alarm? Norton? ect

If you do or is a built in firewall with your anti virus just try disable it just for testing purposes

I have AVG8, I disabled it and played BC2 no succes, could the problem be svchost? I have very much running on my PC...

Its not unusual to have several Svchost's but i would be suspicious of having 16 running (13 run for me)
I wont say that yours will be bad but its worth checking them out to be sure with the likes of Process explorer http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/ProcessExplorer.zip

AVG, has of late been causing a lot of problems so even though you disabled that id still be wary of it and maybe try making the move to Avast even if only for testing

Also since AVG8 should only be and Anti-virus are you sure there is nothing else?
Maybe you have some separate firewall?? Apart from windows firewall

Okay, well thanks for the svchost explorer. It helped me alot.

Nope, AVG is the only thing I've ever installed on my PC for virusses etc.

Okay I figured it out.

My every 60 seconds lag spikes are caused by Windows Vista searching for a new wireless connection every minute. This causes the game to lag and your downloads to stall.

The solution for this problem is Vista Anti Lag, its a small program that shuts down Vista's urge for new connections.

I really recommend anyone with the same issue to install that program, it works like a bless.
