Lack of Sub and too much speaker power < )

In a desperate attempt to hear that nice thud on the ground again, over the muffled audio blasting out of the speakers, I had no choice but to turn to the forum of Vista users to see if anyone else can answer my plea.

I usually suss things out, but this time i really have no idea *groan*.

The topic itself is really self explanatory, in a nutshell - but ill start from the top.

I recently switched from Vista 32bit to finally up my RAM to 6gig, yet I had the same problem switching from XP to Vista 32bit. My subwoofer began giving out less power, which seems to be sent to my speakers, making them sound as if they are incubated in a sock.

I've fiddled round with sound settings in the sound options im given in the sound menu and windows media player but I really get no joy.

I managed to sort the problem out on 32bit, but even still, I just uninstalled the software I got with the motherboard, and bingo. I was fine.

The motherboard im using is the ASUS P5K3 Deluxe.

the software you get with it is Black Hawk SoundMAX - something like that, but its a piece of software that claims it 'enchances' music experience, yet it only turns speaker volume down or up. Just like my hope...

Anywho. You get the general idea. If anyone has a solution, feel free to give it to me via projectile transfer. *dives*

Did manage to find the Vista balance controls,

that allows you to adjust each speaker individually? One problem with the audio chipset on your motherboard is a major lack of support. Just had a look on Asus' site and the newest driver is a year and a half old. If you search around on their site looking at other boards that use the same audio, you might be able to find something newer, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Other than that out of ideas to fix it, and you'll have to wait for someone that has the same audio chipset.

Personally I would look at getting an actual sound card that and get away from the onboard. If you decide to give this route a try, let us know what the primary use will be (gaming or music/movies) and what kind of budget you have.

I already fiddled round with the settings you mentioned, and beggars belief - it does nothing *slouches*.

I've always wanted to move away from on board sound, but i've always managed to get it to work perfectly fine - I've only ever settled down with a sub woofer and two speakers, since the sub gives it the kick, and the speakers disperse the sound! But I use the same sound settings regardless of what im doing.

Video editing, listening to music, gaming - things along those lines.

As for budget - I always seem to get stuff at the right time on the market - lets hope my luck is still there for sound cards!
