Kswdmcap.ax ERROR

Everytime I try turning on the webcam, a pop-out windows appears with message:

"C:\Windows\system32\kswdmcap.ax is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error..."

tried re-installing Video card Driver, Windows System restore, even ask for the file from Microsoft but cannot replace file because of the administrator thing. Read about the adminstrator error... did not help...

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Hello,

I think this is file corruption. Did you get the file from Microsoft, maybe we will be able to replace it. Anyway, please save the Microsoft file to your Desktop, then do the following:

STEP ONE:

Download OTL to your Desktop

• Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.

• Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:
  /MD5START
  kswdmcap.ax
  /MD5STOP

• Click the None button, followed by Scan. The scan wont take long.
• Please copy and paste into your next reply the log produced.

STEP TWO:

Press the Windows Key, followed by the R Key, while still holding the Windows Key. Type "cmd" and press enter. Type "sfc /scannow" and press enter. Wait about 15 minutes. Once it has finished, type (or copy and paste)

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

and press enter. Immediately, a new sfcdetails.txt file will have been created on your Desktop. Please copy and paste it in your next reply also.STEP THREE:

(Repeat of Step One)

Follow what richc46 said, it is what to do, with the Elevated Console.

cannot open CBS.log.... "access denied"

Take ownership of the file and give permissions.
