Hey All,

I'm using a Logitech MX 5500 Revolution keyboard and mouse combo. As you may or may not know, the keyboard has special vista shortcut keys, such media center, 3d flip, gadgets, photo gallery etc. Anyways, I've noticed that these shortcut keys don't work, until I open up the logitech software that configures and calibrates all the buttons on the hardware. So pretty much once I've opened up the program these keys work, but on startup and before I open up the software they dont. I've installed the drivers and I've checked my msconfig to see wether or not the service is switched off on startup, and it is on.

Have a look at the logitec software under options. Does it say start on boot-up or some other setting.
Have a look in your error logs to see if the service is failing to start for any reason.
Ensure that the setpoint software is installed properley.

Hey,

Thanks for reply. I can only seem to open the keyboard and mouse settings application. However when i click to open the setpoint app nothing comes up. In msconfig, it says Setpoint is enabled for startup and when i clicked help in logitech, it says Setpoint startsup silently in the background. However, something must be playing up with my setpoint because it says the hotkeys dont work until setpoint is booted, and since windows is saying its booted...something isnt right, please help. Where are the error logs stored btw?

Looking at the logitec website it says to install setpoint with the firewall and antivirus turned off.

To get to your error logs.

Left Click on Start Menu.
Right click on Computer and choose manage.
Click on the event viewer.
You now have loads of options to try and pin down what is happening.
Expand the error tab.
Look for things in the last 24 hours.

Install setpoint using the administrator account.

change the setting open in background to either off or unchecked or whatever you can do to change it.

Cool, thanks for the research. Umm johnGalt, there is no option to turn off the open in thebackground, I read that from the logitech help index. Roy69, with the firewall and antivirus turned off during installtion, I have AVG, plus the windows stuff, so do I just switch off the windows firewall and avg during installation? I dont see the point in turning off AVG because it doesnt have a firewall and doesnt scan unless i tell it to. I also installed setpoint under the admin account before AVG was installed. So can I just reinstall setpoint with the firewall turned off to fix it?

Uninstall setpoint. Reinstall it from this file;

Insure you have the right version i.e. 32bit.
Turn AVG off and the windows firewall.
Disable uac as in the tutorial.
Install as administrator as before.

Hey,

Thus far Iv uninstalled setpoint and downloaded it again from your link. I know how to turn off the firewall but I dont know how to turn off the malware which is in correspondance with my AVG.

I figured out how to do a clean boot - logitech setpoint still doesnt load on startup. Maybe its logitechs fault. Anyone else having startup problems with setpoint460? Can anone else suggest a reason why my setpoint wont load on startup even though I tell it to?

Nope - I use a Logitech MX Revolution, and the only time I have problems is if it comes out of hibernation - then some of my MX buttons lose their assigned functions.

But on boot I have no issues at all.

Also, SetPoint should be creating your profiles in your users' directory, so you might try uninstalling again, making sure your profiles are also removed (I have mine in C:\Users\{userlogin}\AppData\Roaming\Logitech\SetPoint but you'll need to make sure you have hidden file and folder viewing enabled in your Folder options (Tools --> Folder Options --> View tab --> Select Show hidden files and folders) because AppData is a hidden folder. Finally, reboot the computer.

Then, disable your AVG *from inside AVG* and try installing it again with AVG disabled and no old user files. If the installer allows you to run SetPoint after installation, uncheck that. Then Manually start SetPoint after closing the installer. If it requires a reboot, allow it to reboot, because that will accomplish the same thing.

Now, set your options again in SetPoint and see if this works.

Before I uninstalled it I went into C:\Users\{userlogin}\AppData\Roaming\Logitech\SetPoint and theres only 3 files. 2 bin files and an xml file. Should there be profiles etc?

user.XML is your profile. I don't have a KB so maybe that is why I don't have the bin files....

Delete the Logitech folder from Roaming.

And you did delete the Logitech folder before reinstalling, right?

Do you have UAC enabled or disabled?

UAC is disabled and yes i deleted the folder before reinstallation.
