KB982536 Error Code 80070643

I've been trying to install KB982536. I've tried the automatic update, I've tried the manual update. I've made sure that nothing is running that shouldn't be running. I keep getting Error Code 80070643 when I try to install automatically. I try to manually download and install, and keep getting told that none of the updates apply to my system. Yet Microsoft tells me that this is an important installation.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

There can be several causes for this particular error, one may be a virus.

Download and run malwarebytes as well as an antivirus scan

If that is clean

The malwarebytes got deleted after 2 tries, and 2 crashes. I'll check out the second option. I've got a couple of other programs like spybot, adware, and McAfee, that I'll run before I try again.

Not a good sign if you could not run malwarebytes. Many malware do that so it cannot be checked or deleted.

I would follow the advice of richc46, if it wont scan in normal mode, try scanning in safe mode.

Also, have you tried this ?.

How do I reset Windows Update components?

There are two ways of doing it, one is an auto fix, just press the button, the other way a to manually fix it, i leave that up to you.
