Although this may be a gaming sub forum it is geared towards problems with games and is generally not used by clued up gamers.

Your post is totally valid, unfortunately most of the people on this forum can't help you on this topic

If I were you I'd read some reviews on the internet and have a browse through Amazon and Steam and see what looks good or post your question on a more dedicated forum.

Sorry I can't give you any recommendations (I'm a Valve person myself, joysticks never were my thing).

Oli

there really isnt much on the flight sim combat games at mo the nearest for dogging etc is probably il-2 sturmovik, if you want more realistic flying go for m$ flight simulator, x-plane for the latest generation, someone may have made a combat mod for it.
if you want more futuristic dogfighting go for descent, we still have servers up use the tracker D3.Descent.cx Game Browser but be warned its a steep learnng curve induces motion sickness and a joystick killer :)

From one armchair leather seated joystick holding jet jockey to another don’t listen to them, there are some really nice Jet Sims out there. It all depends on you flying style and your PC power. My pop, god rest his soul loved WWII flight Sims, while I stay up to date with the latest and fastest. A good all around flight sim would have to be Microsoft Flight Simulator X, it is a good reality sim, and there are so many expansion packs for it, the sky is the limit, a flight simmers must, but boy do you need a powerful PC. Some good jet combat Sims are Falcon 4.0 Allied Force, and Lock on, however these Sims have a high learning curve. Wings over Europe, the Jetfighter series and Novalogics F22 raptor are good easy to learn and fly sims and most come with a in flight trainer. F22 graphics are dated but it’s the only flight sim that allows you to NUKE your enemy from above, It’s a good little game. One main rule to remember is, If the game is made by Microsoft chances are it will run on vista. There are so many sims out there, and the WWII sims are really good to. I have or have had 99.99% of them dating all the way back to the first black and white line graphics DOS Fighter.

Upgraded the power supply to 600Watt, in order to get the Nvidia 8800 graphics card to run. And added 1GB of memory even through 32 bit Vista will not use it all.
Make sure you check the box for the PC requirements, and update your PC drivers, PC firmware and Bios and check Vista for updates. On some of the older Sims you will need to configure them backward compatible maybe to XP SP1, and run as administrator. You might even need to lower the graphics setting on the compatibility window, but install and run the game using Vista first and the go a step back if needed. Do not get F86 Saber it will not work on any setting on Vista and the developers will even tell you.

Aces High, ww2 fighter game online. But you have to pay monthly though. Id also try flight simulator X. Make sure you have a preety good processor for these types of games require calculations for the physics part. There is also another one called jetfighter4.

You can also try google earth's flight sim: http://earth.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=guide.cs&guide=22385&topic=23746&answer=148090

It really depends on what types of aicraft you want to fly. Consider trying out the trials for these games before actually buying them.

If you want an all around ww2 Shooter/Flight Sim/Ship Commander/Carrier commander/Driving vehicles/Manning artillery/Placing mines/Being sniper/Playing as a ww2 medic/Machine Gunner game, try battlefield 1942, its an easy to run game ( i get 40fps+ with my intergrated graphics).

Make sure that you get a joystick to go along with your games for a better experience.

Good luck and happy gaming.
