Itunes problem

Lorien, I too tried your steps and to no avail. I dont know how to post a screenshot, but the message basically says that it cannot locate itunes. When I try to uninstall so that I can reinstall or repair it, I get a Window Installer screen that says "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"

"Click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containign the installation package iTunes64.msi in the box below ...and then there is a browse box but of course, I cannot locate the itunes 64.msi file. So to summarize, I cannot install, uninstall or repair itunes or quicktime... I have downloaded both SISoftware and UNIBLUE REGISTRY BOOSTER...and both did not help.

I would appreciate ANY other suggestions you may have.

Hi Susan,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Do you know when this problem began (when you did the installations) - it sounds fairly recent? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html. Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for the updates.

If you get in front of the installation, this should remove it and you should be free to try the installation again without needing to uninstall the version that isn't working. Save the download file to the desktop and then right click on it and click run as administrator - do not run it from the website.

I hope this helps. If not, post back with what happened and we'll dig deeper into the problem. The solution in the other thread does not apply here as you did not get that same error message (or did you?).

P.S. Please uninstall Registry Booster and never use it again if you value your system and your registry. Such programs are not necessary and while some do little or nothing, some can cause great harm to the point of needing to re-install the system. Vista does a fine job managing the registry and such products are simply not worth the risk.

Hello Susan!

Please try what Lorien has said first, in particular about System Restore. I also back him up on Registry Boosters. They should be avoided like the plague!

Anyway, assuming that nothing else works, download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, from here: |MG| Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 7.2 Download

Use it to remove iTunes, restart your computer, and try the install again. This will fix this error 90% of the time, if it doesn't, it may be a common Apple component in the C:\Windows\Installer folder, and we will need to remove all Apple products with this tool. More about that later!
