iTunes install error with Vista Home Premium

I am installing iTunes + QuickTime (I have tried ver 9 and 10) and get an error. Once the error occurs the install quits and reverses all installed files (this happens with ver 9 or 10)

The ERROR is:
An error occured during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",process or Architecture ="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for information. HRESULT:0x80070424.

I am using:
Vista Home Premium
64 Bit Operating System
Service Pack 1
4.00 GB Ram

I have tried everything that I could think of, short of reinstall of the os and nothing has worked. Any solutions to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hello!

I think you are missing some of the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtimes. Download and install the following in the correct order, as listed. Allow each to finish installing before starting the next. If it ask for a restart, click No, as long as you remember to immediately restart after the last one. This is fine. Re-install iTunes.

I know they each take a little while to install, but you need to do this.

I tried to download and install the links and on the 1st DL I received the error

Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft:VC80.ALT.type="win32".version="8.0.50727.42".publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b".processorArchitecture=amd64". Please refer to Help and Support for more information.

If you look at the other error and this one, the publicKey Token is the same. I tried to reset the pc and tried again and still had the same result. This is strange because everything was working fine just about a week ago. Trouble shooting tells us to look and see what changed at the time this started to happen ... as often as I hear it and don't believe it, i really do not think anything on here has changed. All apps including itunes was working ... one day I started the laptop up and opened itunes app and received an error which informed me to reinstall it. I tried to reinstall and received the error in my first post. Would you have any other ideas? Thank you for the help

If you still have a problem, come back here, and I will continue to investigate. I do have an action plan (at least to start with) but we may as well try the simple things first.

Sometimes, the changes aren't known to the user. I am not one for "try and undo the damage". I really hate that approach. I much prefer to try and fix the error. If I had my way, I would never perform a System Restore, but bank on it not working, and try to learn from it, to fix the error, rather than undoing it. However, since this is not my computer, we should try the simple things. What am I saying here: I am not going to ask you to try and make up something you did to break it!

Hello and thanks for the info. I should have added this to my original post, but I have already tried a system restore which did not resolve the issue. I am thinking the easiest approach to resolve the issue will be to reinstall the os. However, I always enjoy a good puzzle and would like to resolve the issue without the reinstall of the os. I will also like to figure out what caused the issue for future issues. Any other help or insight will be greatly appreciated.

No problems!

First, let us check for corruptions to the Operating System files. If we really cannot solve this, you may have to re-install, but I will try and avoid that. Run sfc /scannow, and then use the Yellow Tip box at the top of this tutorial to read the SFC logs. This will create a new file called sfcdetails.txt on your Desktop. Please copy and paste it, or upload it to your next post. All the details you require are in this tutorial:

I tried to run the sfc /scannow command but when I did, I recevied the error Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service. What I understand this happens if the TrustedInstaller (Windows Modules Installer) service is disabled. I then went into the services.msc and looked for the Windows Modules Installer to enable the service but was unable to locate it. Currently it is not on the pc / in the services.

I resovled the issue of the missing TrustedInstaller by referring to the instructions on

and used SCENARIO III - Issue with Windows Modules Installer
Side note: I have had an issue for the longest time updating the Vista os because of errors. These errors pertain to the TrustedInstaller as well. Once I resolved the issue of this service missing, I am now able to update the pc. I also tried to reinstall itunes ver 10 and it now allows me to install and is running without issue.

(SCENARIO III - Issue with Windows Modules Installer) and give me your opinion on the method and the files used (.reg and .exe). I want to make sure all is on the up and up. Me being very security consious, i have a reoccuring fear of letting something in by DL and installing code/app ect... that will give someone full access to my pc or send them any information they are looking for from my pc .... I know the security do's and dont's and that you are able to see the current connections on the network but you never know ... measure twice and cut once type of thing.
