Hi people, long time browser of the forum..but first time posting.
Im running Vista Ultimate x64, which has been working fine for ages, no problems I havnt been able to sort out untill now.
For some weird reason the sidebar wont load the gadgets or run the already installed items. Sidebar runs ok but without loading anything. Ive searched the forum and googled it to death but cant find a working solution.
Secondly, Windows Update wont start from the control panel anymore. It seems to do auto updates ok, but cant open it manually. Hoping you good people can point me in the right direction. Neither are major probles, just want to know why this has happened and how to resolve it.

Thanks for your time...

Hello DasReich,
Regarding windows sidebar, have you tried the link below ?
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/117192-windows-sidebar-will-not-start-vista.html

As to windows update, can you explain what did you mean "can't open it manually"?
Can you use Start menu, type windows update in search box, then click open windows update at the top ?
Is there anything else that doesn't start from Control Panel ?

Regarding windows update, are you able to open wuapp.exe (wuapp.exe in serch bar + Enter)

Ive tried that Sid but nothing, the screen seems to flash up for less than a second and dissapears.

As for the sidebar issue t-4-2, I am going to work my way through the items in the link. Ive tried some of that already but without success.

Will let you know what happens.

"--can't open it manually." Does that mean you cannot bring" windows update "window to the screen ? If yes, then how do you know auto-updates is ok ? I need to understand fully what you said in order to have a chance to help you.

Appologies for not clarifing the problem.

I cannot access Windows update from the Control Panel or via the start/run or any other method.
I know windows updates automatically because this problem has existed for a while now and on restarts I have have updates install ok that have auto downloaded.

Its not something that has really bugged me, but now with the sidebar problem it just nagged me too far.
Hope this helps.

" --on restarts--". Did you have the machine re-installed ? If yes, you need to re-install or update your drivers.
