Hi,

After I installed some updates ever since then when i boot my PC windows is asking me to do a disk check. The first time I skipped and then the second it asked the next day I accepted. Weirdly enough, I got an extra 100gb of space on my hardrive and backup external without anything being delete after the checkd. However after some investigating all the stuff on my external is now corrupted but all the stuff on my internal is ok however where the extra 100gb of space is coming from is beyong me.

Anyways now my external is on the fritz and everything is corrupted after this check. So i am formatting it. When i go to disk management for some reason the external is split into 2 partitions, one is 931gb and the unallocated is 731gb. The weird thing is its only a terrabyte external so I dont where the extra 731gb is coming from either? Can someone help me cause this is weird stuff? I want to know where the extra 100gb is coming from on both drives after the check, and where the extra 731gb partition is coming from, why windows is asking me for a disk check all of a sudden when everythign was fine and whether everything will be ok cause i dontwant to lose any data.

Chkdsk can consolidate your files is it finds something amiss. This will free up space. As to the drive, right click it in explorer and format it as ntfs. If you can't access the drive try the Ubuntu live cd to get all your stuff from it.
