Internet problems

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but anyway.

My computer clearly tells me that I am connected to the internet, however the following still happens:

I can not use anything which requires internet connection (msn, browsers, steam etc.)
I can use programs which requires internet connection, but not browse webpages.
I can browse some webpages (and use programs), but not all.
Everything works fine.

Also, I can ping localhost and Google, but not myself.

Seemingly, it shifts between the four. Most of the time, it's one of the three first. When I try to access webpages, I simply get "The address could not be found". I feel like I've tried a million different things (disabling the firewall, flushing dns, checking the hosts file etc.) but nothing seems to be a permanent solution. Occasionally after trying something, it works for a while but then shuts down again.

I have a HP laptop with Vista 32bit and a Norton firewall. I normally use Firefox, but I've also tried IE and Chrome when trying to fix the problem.

This kinda needs to be resolved as quickly as possible as I really need the internet to work smoothly at the moment.

Thanks in advance

Hello Vatsug,
How does your PC connect to the router, is it hard wired or is it wireless ?.
Is there more than one PC on the network ?.
If this is a new issue, can you try a system restore to a point before this started.

Take a look at this, not sure if it will help, but its worth a look.

You receive an error message in Internet Explorer: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

I would also scan with these free apps.

Malwarebytes

CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download (Backup Registry When Prompted).

I'm hoping some of this will help, as you have exhausted my knowledge on this. ;)

Good luck and post your results, i will keep digging for answers.

Thank you both for your answers. I have a wireless connection which i share with several others (though, this problem occurs when using other connections aswell, such as the one at uni). I can not physically access the router, but can restart it along with everything else by cutting the power and thrn turningit on again.

This issue started a few days ago, and i have tried to boot it with last working configuration (through hitting F8 when it boots). I have some trouble dowloading the programs you linked as my browser wont open the page. Oddly enough, certain sites (such as Facebook and gmail always works). I will dowload the programs when i can.

I am using a standard account and its the only one on the computer.

(currently writing on the phone as the browser is acting up)

Thanks again.

Edit: As the computer now decided to let me on the forums on explorer (but not on firefox), I corrected some spelling errors.

Edit again: I have now installed and done the recommended scan with Anti-Malware. I reckon it's no use posting the entire log since it's in swedish and only one infected file was found.

The only infected file is: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\regfile\shell\open\command\(default) (Broken.OpenCommand) -> Bad: ("regedit.exe" "%1") Good: (regedit.exe "%1") -> No action taken.

Anti-Malware says that it was made by Broken.opencommand and is in the category registry data. I assume that I should remove it? (I'm awating an answer before taking any actions here, I don't want to remove anything I shouldn't)
