Internet Explorer 7 Issues

Hey All,

Internet Explorer 7, when trying to open, it will flash open, then close, I have disabled all addons, tried a windows repair, tried a chkdsk /r and also a sfc /scannow.

The odd thing is, then i go to the last tab in internet options (I get there via control panel), where the tick boxes usually are, it's blank with a sliber bar to the side rather than up and down, if i click this windows it returns an error message, "An acception occured while trying to run C:\Windows\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\Windows\system32\inetcpl.cpl" - I have tried replacing this file, still no luck.

Any ideas?

Hi Rome,

I think your replacing a file with the wrong version, SFC /scannow should have been able to solve the issue for you if you used it at the start...Do you have a System Restore point you can go back to before this error started?

A malicious ActiveX or script may have permanatly corrupted IE7 if your using it without "Protected Mode On" so you might also have todo a virus scan...

A temporary solution would be using the IE8 Beta 2 from here: http://www.vistax64.com/vista-news/177736-internet-explorer-8-beta-2-now-available.html until IE8 is released as it will install the proper files for you

dmex your spot on I never thought of that one! But it was for a customer so I had to bite the bullet and do a Format/Reinstall

All is good now, apart from their 'where is my software, what do I do' even though it has been explained to them several times in detail!

But will remember IE8 for next time. Thanks a million!
