Hi all,
I have a problem with my daughter's laptop.
The preamble:
I'm was using Windows7 prc on both my desktop and laptop. My daughter has Vista Home Premium (Greek) on her laptop. We both had Norton 360 running until the prescription ran out last month (coinciding with the Win 7 prc ending) and I put Windows Live Essentials on My desktop with a purchased (downloaded) copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. I put Linux Mandriva on my Laptop.
My daughter is not computer literate and but for Facebook and Messenger, would gladly not use one!
When Norton finally stopped working on my daughter's laptop I uninstalled it and put Live Essentials on for her and the problems started...
Her laptop (HP Pavilion 1120) still accesses our home network and she can use Live Messenger, receive mail, etc but her browser (IE8) will not acces the web.
What I have done so far:
Put on Firefox, reverted IE8 to IE7 and back again, ran CCcleaner Reg cleanup all with no success.
Using many forums and searches I have tried the 'netsh winsock reset' path, the 'scf /scannow route' to no avail.
After running CMD /K SC QC DHCP I noticed the
BINARY_PATH_NAME : C:WINDOWSsystem32svchost.exe -k netsvcs LocalServiceNetworkRestricted entry and regedited the
<HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services Dhcp DependOn Service> to remove the lines:
NSI
Tdx
Afd
from DEPENDENCIES and replaced them with:
Tcpip
Afd
NetBT
I think I still need to remove the above restriction but am not sure how.
The laptop is, of course, all in Greek and slows me down somewhat as in safe mode I cannot change the language to English.
Any help would be appreciated as the missus wants her netbook back!
