intermittent bsod

Welcome
Although I normally take care of these BSOD problems, I am not at home and do not have the requied software. I will forward this to another expert in the field. You will be helped

Hello,

I see two specific causes blamed: your Alps drivers, and Avast.

Start by updating your touchpad drivers; updates can likely be found on your computer manufacturer's support page.
Code:
Apfiltr.sys Tue Dec 12 09:51:19 2006 (457EC1E7)
Also, remove Avast, according to these directions: https://support.avast.com/index.php...viewarticle&kbarticleid=504&nav=0,1,22#idt_02

Replace it with MSE: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

Also, install these updated Broadcom Ethernet drivers: Broadcom.com - Ethernet NIC NetLink Driver Downloads
Code:
b57nd60x.sys Mon Nov 03 15:51:51 2008 (490F6467)

If the BSODs persist, please create a full BSOD report for us. See these directions: http://www.vistax64.com/crashes-debugging/282419-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Thanks for the reply. Working on the drivers, but I have a problem with Avast. I am using the purchased version and have just renewed for 3 years. I also have a Windows Home server and the Avast was the best I could find to handle that machine as well as the XP and vista clients. I couldn't quite comprehend the minidump report, is there evidence that Avast is causing problems??
Steve

My Computer

aswSnx.SYS and aswTdi.SYS are Avast drivers; they were blamed by two of the dumps.

Since you don't want to get rid of Avast right now, start by updating the Broadcom drivers; perhaps Avast is choking on the old network drivers.

Here's the link again: Broadcom.com - Ethernet NIC NetLink Driver Downloads

Since the latest two crashes were blamed on your Alp drivers, try uninstalling them in Device Manager; type devmgmt.msc into the start menu, and you'll find them under the "Mice and other pointing devices" section.

Here is what has happened since last post:
1) updated all drivers for alps touchpad, Dell wireless card, Broadcom NIC, and new bios version.
2) bought and started using wireless mouse to reduce activity on touchpad
3) tried a registry cleaning software, Uniblue from link above, couldn't get internet explorer to load any web pages, had to restore computer to using WHS to a previous date. This was before driver updates.

Have had several bsod since, only one of them I saw and it reported memory error.

Attached are the necessary files for a full bsod report.
Let me know if more info is required.
Thanks for your help,
Steve

My Computer

There is nothing of consequence blamed in the dumps; we'll just have to try the most likely causes.

First, try enabling driver verifier: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable - Windows 7 Forums

After you've had a few more BSODs, upload a new report.

Also, test your RAM: RAM - Test with Memtest86+ - Windows 7 Forums

8 passes of ram test and no errors.
Verifier does not cause any bsod, although it would appear that with verifier enabled, my cpu meters are red-lined constantly on gadget sidebar. I cannot seem to identify the driver or process that is causing this, maybe this is normal for verifier??
Should I wait for more bsod or errors of some sort or is this info helpful???
Thanks,
Steve
Also, should I leave verifier enabled and cpu running constantly?? currently, I have disabled it, seemed harmful to cpu to me.

My Computer

High CPU usage is normal for driver verifier. It works in the background, trying to find faults in the drivers selected. How long did you leave it running for? If you had it running for perhaps 24 hours, and it did not cause a BSOD, it is likely drivers are not the cause.

If verifier did not run for at least 24 hours, try enabling it again. The high CPU usage won't hurt anything, although it may impact performance.

If you get more BSODs, please upload a new report.
