Solved Intellitype Pro 8.2 Keeps Crashing

Just lately itype.exe stops working within seconds of booting up, tries to restart and then stops again and I get the 'Close Program' choice. This has been an intermittent issue over the years in all flavours of Windows with just about every version of the software and I have never found solutions anywhere despite exhaustive Google searches. Has anyone any ideas as to why it suddenly starts to happen out of the blue? It would appear that Microsoft know about it but aren't doing anything about it and it's such a rigmarole using their support maze.

Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Keyboard/Mouse 8000 Desktop Set, software version: ITPx64_1033_8.20.469.0. Mouse (and camera) working fine as does the keyboard but none of the special keys work as a result of this. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling. I'm mystified why this suddenly starts happening.

They are brand new rechargeables. But that would have no effect on the software surely?

That link was dealing with a slightly different problem from mine and these batteries are new anyway so it can't be that unfortunately. One user in that thread mentioned Windows Defender blocking things so I even tried making an exception for itype.exe in WD, no effect. I had already searched the web high and low regarding this as it isn't the first time it has happened and not just with this keyboard either.
I suspect it's a software clash in Windows but with the Event Viewer giving absolutely no hint of what might be to blame it's a mystery.
I can still use the keyboard of course but certain peripheral keys are non-functional without the software being active. It's just an annoyance more than anything else. I'm sure it'll clear up eventually.

Edit: I multi-boot and it isn't happening in any other OS, Vista or Windows 7.

Are you sure that it is compatible with 64-bit?

It comes in both 32 and 64 bit versions and the website tells me to download the 64-bit one only.

Besides, it works OK in my other Vista and Windows 7 installations on the same machine.

OK guys. I realised that the software version in my other OS's was the one previous to this, so I uninstalled IT 8 and installed IT 7 and all is working fine. Buggy software I guess.

Thanks for your help. At least it got me really troubleshooting this thing instead of putting up with it.
